Famille rose stands as a radiant jewel in the millennium-long history of porcelain-making at imperial kilns. It marks the transformation of Jingdezhen ceramics: from crude pottery to refined porcelain, from monochromatic tones to rich, varied hues. Driven by continuous advances in raw materials, techniques and firing methods, famille rose was successfully created in the Kangxi reign, reached its pinnacle of beauty under Yongzheng, and flourished during the Qianlong reign.
Delicate, noble, luminous and elegant, famille rose ranks among the most precious ceramic crafts. It embodies restrained oriental aesthetics through natural hues and intricate painting. Its production process is elaborate and complex, demanding exceptional proficiency and prolonged crafting time.
In the Yongzheng reign, Emperor Yongzheng personally participated in design and production at the Imperial Workshop in the Forbidden City. He established imperial aesthetic standards and the highest benchmarks for famille rose porcelain. Each famille rose piece requires more than 72 production stages and four firing cycles, crafted collectively by multiple master painters to achieve such exquisite artistry.
